In the winter of 2005, I had the idea of sending my mailing list a daily note. I know that business owners have zero time for anything that isn't short, sweet and to the point. I created these "NOTES" with the intention that each one would take less than one minute to read. I also knew that business owners don't like anyone to tell them how to do anything. I certainly couldn't do it as Jerry Wistrom. Instead, I decided to write these notes in the persona of "Your Business". When I got the idea for this, I laughed out loud. How wonderful it would be for a business to slip its owner a little note every day. Some of the notes would be serious, some of them just plain fun, and each one would acknowledge the reality of being in business.
When I rolled this concept out, I received immediate feedback. PEOPLE LOVED THEM!!! I have a folder in my electronic inbox dedicated to compliments about "NOTES". Those compliments have kept me writing these little "nudges" ever since.
"NOTES" are delivered every morning to subscribers all over the world. Some business owners have told me that they print out each and every one of them. Some have said that they play a little game with them printing out all the "NOTES" for a week and then picking one at random to implement.
